Junior Play For Keeps - Keyboard & Piano

Junior Play for Keeps provides a fun and stimulating environment in which children can enjoy making music on a keyboard. It is open to beginners aged between six and seven and is designed to take the student to an intermediate level. At this stage they then progress on to the Play For Keeps course, working towards grade 3.

Listen - Copy - Play

Yamahas teaching method is based on the listen - copy - play which is a bit like learning to speak. They then learn to read and write music. This is a very natural way to learn carried out in an atmosphere of fun with groups of other children.

Great emphasis is placed on the actual mood of the music therefore strong, vivid images and story telling with practical demonstrations are an essential part of the learning process and helps the child to develop a more individual and creative approach to the music.

General Benefits

Generally, children who do music are more likely to become team players, have better self esteem, have improved social skills and it can sometimes boost their concentration and cognitive abilities.

For the first six months parents are encouraged to participate although, after this period most children prefer to go it alone.

Course Materials

There are 5 books in the course each containing a CD with some great backing tracks for practising at home!

Books 1 and 2 prepare the student for preliminary Yamaha Music Foundation Exams. Each book takes approximately six months to complete.

Books 3 and 4 take the student to the necessary standard to complete a grade 1

Book 5 takes between ten and twelve months to complete and is structured to allow the student to move to our Play For Keeps Course Click Here for details...

By the end of of book 5 the student will have achieved a grade 2 examination standard.

Upon Completion the student can progress to book 3 in Play for Keeps.
